Thermal insulation and waterproofing of roofs

Roof insulated and protected with Poliforma advanced polyurethane foam.

Success story: application of thermal insulation and waterproofing on a roof

Employment of POLYPHORMA 3212 (foam from polyurethane from density 30 free) for the thermal insulation subsequently waterproofed with HYDROFORM A1N0 red by our client Enrique López Arce.

Description of works: Enrique López Arce has thermally insulated the roof of a house with POLIFORMA 3212. He then coated it with HIDROFORMA A1N0 red to waterproof and protect the roof. foam against UV rays.

Execution of the works: Enrique López Arce began by inspecting the roof. He made sure to remove all the dirt and mould that was present and to fix all the singular points. This preliminary work is essential to ensure a good adhesion of the foam on the tile to prevent it from peeling off. Once the roof was in the right condition for the application, he proceeded with the projection of the foam from polyurethane. For this purpose, he applied a first layer of foam The first coat is essential, not only to temper the substrate, but also to further improve the substrate thickness. The first coat is fundamental, not only to temper the substrate, but also to further improve the adhesion of the foam to the support.

Once the foam from polyurethane cooled and cured completely, he coated it with an aliphatic coating, HIDROFORMA A1N0. foam The roof's waterproofing was also improved.

The application of the products: When using any product, no matter how easy it is to apply, it is very important to read the Technical Data Sheet provided by the supplier beforehand. In this way we ensure that the conditions described by the manufacturer are met and that, therefore, the product achieves its maximum performance. This is especially important in the application of foam from polyurethane. Each type of foam have different characteristics, despite the fact that they are from the same manufacturer, and this means that their application and the conditions of application are different in each case.

Be the foam from polyurethane what is certain is that all of them have a thermal conductivity very low, making them, among other things, one of the best thermal insulators on the market. It also has a high adhesion to most building materials, and can be applied on bare brick. In addition, its projection requires the use of specific equipment, so it cannot be applied by just anyone, only by professionals in the sector.

Once the machine has been calibrated, the working conditions and the condition of the support have been ensured, it is possible to proceed with the projection of the foam. A very thin first coat shall be applied as a primer and the rest of the coats, of the thickness indicated in the Technical Data Sheet, shall be applied in crossed coats until the desired thickness is reached.

The foam from polyurethane is a product that can withstand rain and wind, but degrades in the sun. This is why, once the foam beech curation curadoIt is important to cover it with an aliphatic product such as HIDROFORMA A1N0.

HIDROFORMA A1N0 is quite easy to apply as it can be applied by roller or brush. As it is a non-trafficable terrace, it does not require fibreglass reinforcement.

Benefits of using POLIFORMA 3212:

Energy savings: A good thermal insulation cover can help to better maintain the temperature inside buildings, thus reducing the number of hours that heating/cooling appliances have to be switched on and reducing electricity costs.

  • Energy saving: A good thermal insulation cover can help to better maintain the temperature inside buildings, thus reducing the number of hours that heating/cooling appliances have to be switched on and reducing electricity consumption.

Implementation: The foam from polyurethane is a product that is applied in situ, which has great benefits.
- Lower transport costs.

- Lower storage costs.

- Less leftover product

- Backfilling of hard-to-reach areas

- Continuous and without thermal bridges.

  • Resilience: In cases where water is present, the foam from polyurethane does not degrade or sag from the wall. It is resistant to most chemicals used in construction.
  • Harmless and inert: There are no problems of inhalation of gases, dust or particles harmful to health. No mould growth.
  • Waterproof: It is impermeable to water, but allows water vapour to pass through, allowing buildings to breathe.
  • Durability: It is a high quality product durabilityIt is resistant to the passage of time and humidity. It does not sag and maintains its declared technical properties throughout its useful life. Its durability makes its CO2 footprint one of the lowest among insulating materials.

Benefits of using the HIDROFORMA A1N0:

Waterproofing: It forms a continuous, elastic and seamless layer that prevents water from passing through, protecting the substrate on which it is applied from dampness and preventing leaks.

  • UV protection: As an aliphatic product, it does not yellow under UV rays and protects the skin from UV rays. foam from polyurethane from the effects of sunlight.
  • Easy application: It can be applied by brush or roller.
